Even Buildings Over 20 Years Old Can Win Awards! The 2nd Taiwan Sustainable Building Awards 2026 Officially Launched
The Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) announced that the "2nd Taiwan Sustainable Building Awards 2026" is now open for submissions, with registration closing on December 5, 2025. Following the successful first event that garnered significant industry attention, this year's awards feature two major highlights: not only continuing the professional and fair selection process but also, for the first time, encouraging buildings over 20 years old to participate. This aims to honor outstanding cases that demonstrate energy conservation, carbon reduction, and innovative regeneration during renovation and maintenance, setting a new paradigm for sustainable architecture.
Extending the Life of Old Buildings: In addition to new projects, construction companies are encouraged to invest in the renovation and maintenance of existing buildings over 20 years old, promoting the concept of "extending life equals reducing carbon" to continue industry sustainability. Through the application of new construction methods, technologies, and materials, not only can the construction industry be upgraded, but the original structure can also be preserved, reducing carbon emissions and waste during demolition and reconstruction. This is an important pathway towards net-zero buildings.
New Individual Awards: For the first time, "Individual" awards have been added to honor architects and professionals from related industries who have made outstanding contributions to promoting sustainable building development, acknowledging their long-term dedication and professional influence.
In recent years, green buildings have become a focal point of competition among cities worldwide. Many advanced countries have incorporated "low carbon, energy-saving, smart, and healthy" into building design and construction guidelines, and through institutionalized evaluation and public disclosure, the environmental performance of buildings has become a key factor in market transactions. TAISE Chairman Chien Yu-Hsin observes that large international exhibition halls and public buildings are increasingly adopting smart energy management, daylight shading design, rainwater harvesting, and low-carbon materials, successfully balancing energy efficiency and comfort.
Simultaneously, the global exhibition and real estate markets are gradually showing a trend of "environmental priority" in site selection. More international companies and event organizers are considering not only convenient transportation and well-equipped facilities when evaluating rental spaces but also the sustainable performance of buildings as a critical condition. Green buildings not only effectively reduce long-term operational costs but also enhance brand image and market visibility, thereby attracting international conferences, exhibitions, and cross-border investments, driving "green premiums" and transforming into tangible competitiveness.
The "2nd Taiwan Sustainable Building Awards 2026" is open for submissions from now until December 5, 2025, sincerely inviting construction companies, architects, development units, architectural firms, and related organizations and individuals to enthusiastically register and participate.
